Promoting Source Segregation
For Increasing Efficiency of Chennai’s SWM system
Nearly all the waste that Chennai produces ends up in its dump sites. This is because segregation rates are low resulting in low recycling and composting despite door-to-door collection and the presence of a decentralized infrastructure network to process waste. Low segregation rates also lead to unsafe and hazardous working conditions for the conservancy workers and informal rag pickers. Kasturba Nagar in Adyar, Chennai, is a neighbourhood facing similar challenges, but the RWA here wants to make a change.
